For this exclusively hand made Pump Fury, the design philosophy of Engineered Garments, which modernizes classic elements, was reinterpreted through the lens of sashiko, a technique with centuries of history. The piece focuses on the shared spirit between the two approaches—particularly the sashiko ethos of reinforcing and extending the life of belongings. Each hand-stitched thread gains strength only when layered upon another. By adding artisanal handwork to a sneaker born from advanced performance technology, a new dialogue emerges between tradition and contemporary design.

Based on Joseph Cheaney’s iconic CAIRNGORM IIR, known for its refined presence and robust build, this model also features the 4436 Last, once used for British military footwear, offering a relaxed, comfortable fit. Its standout feature is the rare Veldtschoen construction, where the upper is stitched over thesole to minimize gaps and block out water and debris. Combined with "bellows tongue", where the tongue and quarters are crafted as one, the design delivers enhanced waterproof protection.

My initial concept was to integrate the distinctive CITIZEN Messenger style. I believe that reintroducing this classic design would effectively underscore the bag's aesthetic. While looking through old Clarks advertisements, I was inspired to create an image using a similar illustration style. The concept involved collaging illustrations with real product photos, highlighting the bold sole and tread pattern that define the shoe’s design.
